The gem has been known under many different names, but the name Turquoise has been used for the past 400 years. Turquoise has been prized as a gem for thousands of years. It is mined in many countries and large deposits of the gem are found in the Southwest United States.
Its use in jewelry dates back to ancient times. Turquoise bracelets have been found in several tombs of the Kings and Queens of Egypt.
